PACMOAA's 25th Anniversary Dinner Meeting

  Pat Maloit, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wakefield,   Virginia, gave an excellent presentation on the history of hurricanes in Tidewater.
Katrina  had already hit New Orleans area, and three more active hurricanes were close by, a very unusual level of activity.

The Second Annual Brunch with VIPMOAA at Ft. Monroe was a great success.  PACMOAA had 29 attendees and the Virginia Peninsula chapter 14. As usual, the fellowship and food was great.  Both organizations are very interested in future collaboration of activities.

June 2005 - Dinner Meeting

Cadet Marcus Sherrod, PACMOAA Scholarship Winner for 2005 and his mother are greeted by Ron Mace, who not only serves our chapter as a director, but also directs the USMC ROTC Program at Marcus' Churchland High School.


LCOL Richard Daugherity, USA (Ret.),  Executive VP of Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Assn is presented a PACMOAA Certificate of Appreciation by President Sherry Ferki.  He presented information on the transportation challenges facing the Commonwealth. More money is needed, but the challenges of finding the proper source are many.


Cadet Marcus B. Sherrod, a member of the Junior USMC ROTC Program at Churchland High School, is presented with a PACMOAA Certificate of Appreciation by President Sherry Ferki. Cadet Sherrod is the PACMOAA Scholarship Winner for 2005. He presented the group with his plans for the future, including prep school and assignment to the USMA at West Point.


 President Sherry Ferki presents our Charter Member and Past President  Harry Miller with a MOAA Certificate for Editorial Excellance in recognition of his role as the The Salute Editor.

May 2005 - Activities

As in years past, PACMOAA members participated in Portsmouth's 121st consecutive Memorial Day parade, said to be a national record. Our president, Sherry Ferki, and past president, Harry Miller, show their enthusiasm in the lead vehicle of our group.

April 2005 - Dinner Meeting

This was our Second Annual Commanding Officers' Dinner Meeting, our opportunity to introduce our MOAA  and PACMOAA activities and open communications with the active duty community. Our honored guests, (above, L to R), included CAPT Joseph Campbell, USN, Commander, NNSY Portsmouth; CAPT Ben Thomasen, USCG, representing RADM Sally Brice-O'Hara,USCG, Commander 5th CG District ; guest speaker, RADM Bill Stubblefield, NOAA (Ret'd); RADM Thomas Burkhard, USN, Commander, NMC Portsmouth; PACMOAA President, Sherry Ferki; MAJGEN Jon Gallinetti, USMC, Commander Joint Forces Suffolk; and CAPT Thomas Cahill, USCG, Commander Integrated Support Command Portsmouth (and a new PACMOAA member). CDR Angelia Elum O'Neal, NC, USN, representing the CO, Naval School of Health Sciences, was not available for the photo.
 
          
RADM William Stubblefield, NOAA (Ret'd), a member of the Board of Directors of the MOAA, was the principle speaker at our April meeting. Admiral Stubblefield gave a lively presentation of the purposes, goals and objectives of the organization and an insight into the challenges of bringing the MOAA legislative agenda to the attention of our legislators. He emphasized the importance of making personal contacts with our own elected representatives via telephone and letters to add emphasis to the MOAA agenda.
